COMEDK Coaching in Bangalore — Tips to Score High and Secure RVCE or MSRIT
Expert tips for COMEDK preparation from Sapience Education, Bangalore. How to score high in COMEDK UGET to secure a seat in RVCE, MSRIT, PESIT or BMS College of Engineering.
COMEDK UGET is the most important private engineering entrance exam in Karnataka. A good COMEDK rank opens doors to RVCE, MSRIT, PESIT, BMS College of Engineering, and 190+ other colleges — institutions with excellent placements in Bengaluru's tech ecosystem. Here are battle-tested tips from Sapience Education's COMEDK coaching faculty in Bengaluru.
Understand the COMEDK Scoring System
COMEDK rank is based on your total score out of 180 (60 per subject). Unlike JEE, there is no normalisation across shifts (COMEDK is a single-shift exam). Your raw score IS your rank score. Consistency across all three subjects is critical — a student who scores 55/60 in Maths but only 40/60 in Physics and 38/60 in Chemistry (total: 133) may rank lower than a balanced student scoring 48/48/48 (total: 144).
RVCE CSE — What Score Do You Need?
Based on COMEDK 2023 and 2024 data, an RVCE CSE seat requires a score of approximately 145–155+ out of 180 and a rank below 2,000. MSRIT CSE needs 135–145 and rank below 3,500. PESIT CSE needs 125–135 and rank below 5,000. BMS College ECE needs 130–140 and rank below 4,000.
These are estimates based on historical data and shift each year depending on the paper difficulty and applicant pool.
Physics Tips for COMEDK
COMEDK Physics is conceptual with significant numerical calculation. Do not rely on formula memorisation alone — understand derivations, because COMEDK sometimes tests intermediate steps. Key chapters to master: Electrostatics (especially capacitor combinations and energy), Current Electricity (Wheatstone bridge, potentiometer), Optics (refraction, lenses in contact, optical instruments), and Modern Physics (photoelectric effect, nuclear reactions).
Practice 30–40 numerical problems per chapter. COMEDK gives you 60 seconds per question — most Physics numericals should be solved in under 90 seconds with practice.
Chemistry Tips for COMEDK
COMEDK Chemistry rewards students who have memorised reactions thoroughly. Organic Chemistry — particularly Named Reactions, Mechanism-based questions, and spectroscopy — is regularly tested at a depth higher than KCET. Build a "reaction flashcard" system: for every organic reaction, note the reagents, conditions, and product.
Inorganic Chemistry (p-block, d-block) and Coordination Chemistry are purely memory-based — make structured notes by group and period. Chemical Equilibrium and Electrochemistry have numerical components — ensure you can solve cell potential, pH, and Kc/Kp problems under time pressure.
Mathematics Tips for COMEDK
COMEDK Maths is the deciding subject. Students who solve 55+ out of 60 in Maths typically end up with top ranks regardless of Physics and Chemistry performance.
Calculus: Practice 50+ definite integral problems per type (substitution, by parts, ILATE). Differential equations — learn standard forms and their solutions cold.
Coordinate Geometry: Master circle equations (family of circles, radical axis, chord of contact), conic sections (locus problems, tangent-normal). These appear in every paper.
Matrices & Determinants: Practice inverse of matrices, system of equations (consistency), properties of determinants — 5–6 questions come from here every year.
Time Management in the Actual Exam
In 3 hours for 180 questions, you have exactly 1 minute per question. Develop this decision protocol: read the question → if you know the approach, solve and mark (target: 45 seconds) → if unsure, mark for review and move on (never spend more than 90 seconds on any single question). In your last 30 minutes, return to marked questions.
Attempt all 180 questions — COMEDK has no negative marking. Even random attempts on unknowns give you 33% expected marks on skipped questions.
Mock Tests and Previous Year Papers
Solve every COMEDK paper from 2019 to 2024 under strict 3-hour conditions. After each test, analyse: which chapter had the most wrong answers? Which subject did you run out of time on? This targeted analysis improves score faster than general studying.
