KCET 2026 Complete Syllabus — Chapter-Wise Guide for PCM & PCB
Everything you need to know about the KCET 2026 syllabus. Chapter-wise breakdown for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology with exam pattern and preparation tips.
The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is the gateway to engineering and medical colleges across Karnataka. Conducted by KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority), KCET 2026 will be held in April 2026 for admission to B.E., B.Tech, B.Pharma, and B.Sc Agriculture programmes. If you are preparing for KCET, understanding the syllabus in detail is your first step.
KCET 2026 Exam Pattern at a Glance
KCET is an offline OMR-based exam with 60 multiple-choice questions per subject. Each question carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking — a major advantage over JEE and NEET. You get 80 minutes per subject paper. The exam is conducted in two sessions: Physics and Chemistry in the morning session, and Mathematics or Biology in the afternoon.
KCET Physics Syllabus
KCET Physics is based entirely on the Karnataka PUC 1st and 2nd year syllabus. The 21 units include Physical World & Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work-Energy-Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Properties of Matter, Thermal Physics, Oscillations, Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Ray Optics, Wave Optics, Dual Nature of Radiation, Atomic Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Semiconductor Devices.
High-weightage topics in KCET Physics are Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Ray Optics, and Rotational Motion. Questions from these four chapters alone account for nearly 35–40% of the Physics paper each year.
KCET Chemistry Syllabus
Chemistry covers 21 chapters spanning both inorganic and organic chemistry. Key chapters include Chemical Bonding, Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Organic Reactions (Aldehydes & Ketones, Carboxylic Acids, Amines), Coordination Chemistry, and Biomolecules. KCET Chemistry is largely conceptual and factual — memorising IUPAC names, reaction mechanisms, and periodic trends is essential.
From a preparation standpoint, Organic Chemistry (8–10 questions), Chemical Equilibrium (4–5 questions), and Electrochemistry (4–5 questions) are the highest-return chapters.
KCET Mathematics Syllabus
Mathematics is the most scoring subject in KCET for PCM students. The 20 chapters include Sets and Functions, Algebra (Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations, Permutations, Binomial Theorem, Sequences), Coordinate Geometry (Straight Lines, Circles, Conics), Calculus (Differential and Integral), Vectors, 3D Geometry, Probability, and Linear Programming.
Calculus — both differential and integral — contributes the highest marks in KCET Mathematics (roughly 25–30%). Coordinate Geometry adds another 20%. Students who master these two areas can score 45+ out of 60 in Mathematics.
KCET Biology Syllabus (PCB Stream)
KCET Biology for the medical stream spans 10 units: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organisation in Plants & Animals, Cell Biology, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics & Evolution, Biology in Human Welfare, Biotechnology, and Ecology & Environment. The Biology paper is heavily NCERT-oriented — approximately 70% of KCET Biology questions are directly sourced from NCERT Class 11 and 12 chapters.
How KCET Differs from JEE and NEET
KCET is significantly less difficult than JEE Main or NEET. Questions test core conceptual understanding and application rather than multi-step reasoning. Time pressure is also lower — 80 minutes for 60 questions gives you 1 minute 20 seconds per question. This makes KCET an excellent confidence-builder and rank booster for Karnataka students who are also preparing for JEE or NEET.
Preparation Strategy for KCET 2026
1. Complete your PUC syllabus thoroughly — KCET does not go beyond the Karnataka PUC curriculum.
2. Solve at least 10 years of KCET previous year papers. Pattern recognition is crucial because many questions are conceptually similar across years.
3. Focus on high-weightage chapters first. In Physics: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics. In Chemistry: Organic reactions, Equilibrium. In Maths: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry.
4. Revise regularly using short notes and formula sheets. Since KCET tests memory alongside application, spaced repetition works very well.
5. Time your mock tests. Even though KCET is less intense, developing exam temperament helps you attempt all 60 questions confidently.
KCET 2026 — Important Dates
KCET 2026 is expected to be held in April 2026. Applications typically open in January–February 2026 on the KEA official website. Students appearing in PUC 2nd year exams in 2026 are eligible to apply. The results and rank list are usually declared within 2–3 weeks of the exam.
