KCET Cutoff 2025 — Expected Ranks for Top Karnataka Engineering Colleges

Expected KCET 2025 cutoff ranks for UVCE, MSRIT, BMSCE, SJCE, BIT and other top Karnataka government engineering colleges. Category-wise rank analysis.

KCET rank is the primary determinant for admissions to government engineering and medical colleges in Karnataka. Knowing the expected cutoff ranks helps you set a realistic preparation target. Here is a comprehensive analysis of expected KCET 2025 cutoffs based on historical data from 2022–2024.

How KCET Cutoff Works

KCET does not announce cutoffs in advance — the final cutoff is the rank of the last student admitted to each branch at each college in a given category (1G, 2AG, 3AG, GM, SCG, STG, etc.). Cutoffs vary every year based on the total number of applicants, paper difficulty, and seat availability.

The key categories are: 1G (Category 1 — General/OBC with local criteria), 2AG (Category 2A — OBC from scheduled list), 3AG (Category 3A — OBC), GM (General Merit), SCG (Scheduled Caste), and STG (Scheduled Tribe).

Top Colleges and Expected GM Rank Cutoffs

UVCE (University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering), Bengaluru: CSE — rank below 500; ECE — rank below 800; Mechanical — rank below 2,500.

SJCE (Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering), Mysuru: CSE — rank below 1,500; ECE — rank below 2,500.

BMSCE (BMS College of Engineering) — Government Quota: CSE — rank below 1,200; ECE — rank below 2,000.

BIT (Bangalore Institute of Technology): CSE — rank below 3,000; ECE — rank below 5,000.

RNSIT (RNS Institute of Technology): CSE — rank below 5,000; ECE — rank below 8,000.

NIE (National Institute of Engineering), Mysuru: CSE — rank below 4,000; ECE — rank below 7,000.

Category 1 (1G) Cutoff Advantage

Students who qualify under Category 1 (based on parental income below ₹2.5 lakh per annum) enjoy significantly lower effective cutoffs. CSE at UVCE may be accessible to 1G students with ranks up to 3,000–4,000, while the GM cutoff is under 500. Category advantages are substantial — if you qualify, ensure you submit the correct income and domicile certificates during applications.

SC and ST Cutoffs

Scheduled Caste (SCG) and Scheduled Tribe (STG) students have reserved seats with separate cutoffs. For top colleges, SCG/STG cutoffs for CSE may go up to 20,000–30,000, making top colleges accessible with moderate scores for eligible students.

Branch-Wise Demand in 2025

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) remains the most competitive branch by a wide margin. CSE, CSE with AI/ML specialisation, and Information Science (ISE) branches at any good college have the lowest cutoff ranks (highest competition). Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering have relatively higher cutoff ranks (lower competition) — meaning lower scores can still get you admission.

For PCB students, MBBS/BDS/Pharmacy cutoffs are separate and are determined by NEET score — KCET Biology paper is primarily for Pharmacy, Agriculture, and Veterinary Science admissions.

What KCET Score to Target

To score 150+ out of 180 in KCET (Physics 60 + Chemistry 60 + Maths 60), you are looking at a rank typically below 1,000 in the General Merit category. A score of 130–150 puts you in the 1,000–5,000 rank band. A score of 110–130 places you in the 5,000–15,000 range, which gives you access to good colleges for non-CSE branches.

Strategy Based on Target College

If your goal is UVCE CSE in GM category: You need KCET rank below 500. This requires near-perfect scores — 155+ out of 180. Prepare accordingly with JEE-level rigour.

If your goal is a good private engineering college via KCET government quota (30% seats): A rank below 10,000 is usually sufficient for most branches at MSRIT, PESIT, CMR, etc. Score 120+ and you have good options.
